This has been a great experience for Madison! This seemed like a daunting accomplishment to strive for at the beginning of the year but she persevered and actually completed the whole thing!! Here are the tasks she had to complete by the end of the year:
(They were given specific dates that each task had to be completed by.)
1. Memorize and recite the Gettysburg Address
2. Memorize and recite the Preamble to the Constitution
3. Write the Pledge of Allegiance (with all capitalizations, punctuation, and spelling correct)
4. Memorize and recite (or sing if you choose) the Star-Spangled Banner
5. Complete a timeline with 37 key events in US history
6. Memorize and recite all States and Capitals (in alphabetical order)
She did such a great job! Less than 20 people in the whole grade completed this task (many completed 1-4 of the items but you had to complete ALL six to get the award.) I believe that it is such a great patriotic thing for the school to have this program!
Madison's friend, Allie, was one of the other people in the grade to complete it as well.
